Eating fast food has become much too normal for us. It’s $35-$50 a pop and happens probably at least three times per week, sometimes more, if I’m being honest.
Usually, eating-out costs don’t affect our budget too much, but this has been THE YEAR of nonstop kid expenses, and our spending is clearly out of control.
We have bought a car for our oldest, who will get her driver’s license this year, paid for competitive cheerleading for two teams, school cheerleading, and school shopping, and still have to pay for driver’s school.
Reigning in food spending is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to feel less financial strain, which is where a meal plan comes in.
I’d usually make a weekly meal plan, starting on Sundays (the day I go grocery shopping.) But I need to start today, hence the longer meal plan.

Friday, 9/13: Hamburger hash (ground beef, cubed potatoes, peppers, onions, and whatever vegetables I feel like adding). (Football game night, need something easy)
Saturday, 9/14: Chopped steak sandwiches or air-fried salmon
